Balram’s Devotion to Sant Hariram
One day, Balram, the elder brother of Shri Krishna, comes across a pious Sant named Hariram. Deeply impressed by his teachings and aura, Balram develops immense respect for him and begins serving at his Ashram with great dedication. Hariram’s words leave a profound impact on Balram, and he wholeheartedly believes in the Sant’s spiritual wisdom.
The Sant, in his wisdom and kindness, cares for his devotees. One such instance occurs when a sick devotee arrives at the Ashram. Seeing his suffering, Hariram offers water from his Kamandal (sacred vessel), and miraculously, the devotee is healed. Witnessing this event, Balram is filled with admiration, reinforcing his belief in the Sant’s divine power.
The Rise of Pride and its Consequences
As news of the miraculous healing spreads, more and more people gather at the Ashram to attend Hariram’s pravachans (spiritual discourses). People come with faith, seeking blessings, and miraculously, many of them feel cured. With time, the Sant’s fame grows, and he begins to bask in the glory of his newfound recognition.
However, this pride slowly overtakes his humility. He starts believing that he alone possesses divine powers rather than understanding that true healing comes through Bhakti (devotion) and God’s grace. Unknowingly, he drifts away from the very path of spirituality that he once followed.
But soon, his powers begin to diminish. The divine energy that once seemed to flow effortlessly now ceases to work. As people start noticing this change, doubts creep into their minds, and the faith they once had begins to fade. Hariram, now struggling to comprehend the situation, finds himself lost.

Balram’s Lesson on True Bhakti
At this crucial moment, Balram steps in and reminds Hariram of the true essence of spirituality. He explains that Bhakti is not about self-glory or miracles; it is about surrendering oneself completely to the divine with pure love and humility. It is God’s grace that works through us, and the moment we let pride take over, we distance ourselves from that grace.
Realizing his mistake, Hariram repents and rediscovers his path. He understands that his powers were never his own, but rather a reflection of the devotion and faith that connected him to God. With Balram’s guidance, he once again embraces the true essence of spirituality—humility, faith, and selfless service.
The Message of the Episode
“Sachchi Shraddha“ teaches us that true devotion lies in selfless faith and humility. Miracles may happen, but they are not the measure of one’s spirituality. The real power of Bhakti lies in surrendering to God with a pure heart, not in seeking recognition for oneself.
